CHURCH FILLED FOR CANDELIGHT CAROL SERVICE AT ERIDGE

Eridge Church held their annual Carol Service by candlelight on Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Despite a glitch in the heating system leaving the church rather cold, there was a full congregation and led by The Eridge Choir with Jane Johnstone conducting and Chris Burvill playing the organ, the church soon swelled with the sound of traditional christmas hymns and carols.  The choir sung a varied selection of carols including the Boars Head Carol, the Coventry Carol and the Shepherd’s Farewell.  They finished with John Rutter’s uplifting Jesus’ Child, a challenging yet hugely enjoyable piece.  Various members of the congregation read lessons and James Packman gave a short address.

Afterwards the congregation enjoyed home made mince pies and delicious mulled wine kindly provided by Michael and Jane Stevens and hugely appreciated by all!

Eridge Choir is always looking for new members.  Enthusiastic singers please contact Michael Stevens at 852739.

There are plans to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with an evening concert at the beginning of June 2012
